Installing OnCommand Insight Data Warehouse and Reporting

The installation is self-contained and includes the elements required to run and operate OnCommand Insight Data Warehouse (DWH) and the Reporting utilities supplied by IBM.

Before you begin

You must have completed all of the installation prerequisites.

If you are upgrading, you should back up all of your OnCommand Insight reports.

About the Informix user:

Note that with OnCommand Insight 7.3.3 and above, the Cognos reporting engine creates an "Informix" user account and services as part of the installation. The DWH installer creates the following elements:

User Informix
Group Informix-Admin
Services Informix IDS – ol_cognoscm

Informix IDS Message Service

You must have local administrator permissions to install the OnCommand Insight software.

Steps

  1. Log in to the Data Warehouse server using an account with administrator privileges.
  2. Open Windows Explorer; then open the directory where the installation files are located.
  3. Double-click the .EXE installation file.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select the Accept License Agreement check box.
  6. Click Next.
  7. In the Customer Information window, enter a customer name and a site name.
    Best Practice: Use the customer name as a prefix for the site name (for example, "NetAppSunnyvale").
  8. If you want to install the software in a different location than the default (C:\program Files\), click Browse and select the location.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Follow the instructions on the windows.
  11. Click Install to proceed with the installation of the OnCommand Insight Data Warehouse and Reporting.
    The installation should take approximately 40 minutes, depending on the selections made.
  12. Click Finish.

After you finish

The Data Warehouse installer creates Informix users in both local and domain when DWH is installed as Domain Administrator. By default, Cognos is configured to use only the local Informix user. However, some customers may have a requirement to use only domain users.

To use the domain Informix user, do the following:

1. Check if the “Informix” user and “Informix-Admin” group is created in the domain.

Note: the “domain\informix” user is created only when DWH is installed as Domain Administrator.

2. Stop the “ol_cognoscm” (Informix) and “IBM Cognos” services.

3. In the “..\cognos\analytics\informix\etc\onconfig.ol_cognoscm” configuration file, change the “CHECKALLDOMAINSFORUSER” value from 0 to 1. This will force the Informix server to search for the Informix user in all domains associated with the server.

4. Optional: Delete the “informix” user and “Informix-Admin” group from Local Users and Groups.

5. Start the “ol_cognoscm” (Informix) and “IBM Cognos” services.
