Upgrading the vCenter Plug-in

For existing installations, you can upgrade the NetApp Element Plug-in for vCenter Server (VCP) using the latest upgrade package or by taking steps to migrate settings from the Flash to the HTML5 version of vSphere Web Client.

Before you begin

You have a cluster running NetApp Element software 11.3 or later.

Step

  1. Upgrade your plug-in according to one of the following procedures if the statements described in the prerequisites are true about your installation and upgrade plans:
Attention: Perform any required vCenter upgrades before upgrading the plug-in. These procedures assume that vCenter upgrades have already been completed.
    Prerequisites Steps
    • Your current plug-in 3.0.1 or 4.x is registered with vCenter Server.
    • You are using the Flash-based vSphere Web Client.
    • You intend to upgrade your plug-in for use with a Flash version of vSphere Web Client.
    1. Log out of the vSphere Web Client.
    2. Choose one of the following management node upgrade options:
      • If you are upgrading from management node 11.0 to 11.1, download and deploy the management node OVA for Element software 11.3 or later or NetApp HCI 1.6 or later. The plug-in service is included in the OVA package. Use the upgrade script to transfer existing management node configuration settings.

        Upgrading a management node

      • If you are upgrading from a management node version earlier than 11.0, download and deploy a new management node OVA for Element software 11.3 or later or NetApp HCI 1.6 or later. The plug-in service is included in the OVA package.

        Installing a management node

Note: Beginning with the Element software 11.3 release, the QoSSIOC service for the plug-in can be updated independently from Element software releases.

      Updating management services

    3. Using the registration utility (https://[management node IP]:9443), update the plug-in registration with vCenter from vCSA or Windows.
Note: Modify properties for an in-house (dark site) HTTP server, if required.

      Modifying properties for HTTP server

    4. Log in to vSphere Web Client and confirm the upgrade was successful.

      Accessing the plug-in after installation

    • Your current plug-in 3.0.1 or 4.x is registered with vCenter Server.
    • You are using the Flash-based vSphere Web Client.
    • You intend to upgrade your plug-in for use with a version 6.5 or 6.7 HTML5 vSphere Web Client.
    1. Log out of the vSphere Web Client.
    2. Choose one of the following management node upgrade options:
      • If you are upgrading from management node 11.0 to 11.1, download and deploy the management node OVA for Element software 11.3 or later or NetApp HCI 1.6 or later. 1. Add storage clusters.
      2. Configure management node and QoSSIOC settings.
    • Your current plug-in 4.1 or later is registered with vCenter Server.
    • You are using the Flash-based vSphere Web Client.
    • You intend to keep your existing plug-in version rather than upgrade.
    • You intend to switch from the Flash-based vSphere Web Client to the HTML5-based vSphere Web Client.
    1. Clear the management node settings in the vSphere Flash Web Client.
