Converting the default LIF to a static IP address

You should normally have DHCP enabled in your VMware environment. In this case, the NAS Bridge virtual machine is assigned a dynamic IP address. For environments without DHCP, you must configure the default LIF with a static IP address.

Before you begin

About this task

The pbcli should only be used for network configuration when DHCP is unavailable for the default LIF. All other network configuration should be performed through the web user interface or management API.

Steps

  1. Open the VMware console for the NAS Bridge virtual machine using VMRC.
  2. Log in using the CLI administrator account:pb
  3. When prompted, type the current password for the account.
  4. Delete the default DHCP LIF, using the same username and password you use for the web user interface.
For example: pbcli -e username -p password lif delete -i 1
  5. Create a new static LIF.
    For example: pbcli -e username -p password lif create -i eth0 -n LIF_NAME -p static -r both -c IPADDRESS/CIDR
  6. Create a default gateway.
    For example: pbcli -e username -p password route create -g IPADDRESS_GATEWAY -n ROUTE_NAME

After you finish

After creating the static LIF, you must always use the static IP address when accessing the NAS Bridge node.
