Impact of decommissioning on data security

To ensure data security, you must wipe the decommissioned grid node’s drives after the decommission procedure is complete. Decommissioning a grid node does not securely remove data from the decommissioned grid node.

Depending on the grid node type being decommissioned, content might be copied to another location in the StorageGRID Webscale system, but it is not permanently removed from the decommissioned grid node. The decommissioning process removes the decommissioned grid node’s certificate so that the decommissioned grid node can no longer communicate with other grid nodes. To the StorageGRID Webscale system, the decommissioned grid node no longer exists; however, copies of data from the decommissioned grid node still reside within the StorageGRID Webscale system.
