Configuring SNMP monitoring

A Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent is available on Admin Nodes and can be used to monitor system status.

The StorageGRID Webscale system supports version v2c (SNMPv2c) and version 3 (SNMPv3) of the SNMP protocol.

The SNMP agent is disabled by default, and the IPv4 and IPv6 community strings are randomly generated. When enabled, the SNMP agent provides system status by returning object identifier (OID) data values to polling requests from a third-party monitoring server.

The StorageGRID Webscale system provides a custom management information base (MIB) file that you can install on the monitoring server to translate OID data into a readable form.

For information about how to configure a third-party monitor for use with StorageGRID Webscale, refer to documentation specific to your SNMP monitor.
