Enabling the SNMP agent

The StorageGRID Webscale's SNMP agent is disabled by default, and the IPv4 and IPv6 community strings are randomly generated. You can enable the agent and set the community strings to strings of your choosing.

Steps

  1. From the service laptop, log in to the primary Admin Node:
    1. Enter the following command: ssh admin@primary_Admin_Node_IP
    2. Enter the password listed in the Passwords.txt file.
    3. Enter the following command to switch to root: su -
    4. Enter the password listed in the Passwords.txt file.
When you are logged in as root, the prompt changes from $ to #.
  2. To enable the SNMP agent, edit /etc/default/snmpd to change SNMPDRUN=no to SNMPDRUN=yes.
  3. To convert the randomly generated community strings to strings of your choice, edit /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf to replace the rocommunity and rocommunity6 randomly generated community strings.
  4. Restart the snmpd service:service snmpd restart
