Adding drives to a cluster

When you add a node to the cluster or install new drives in an existing node, the drives automatically register as available. You must add the drives to the cluster before it can participate in the cluster.

About this task

You can use the Element UI or the Element Plug-in for vCenter to add the drive to the cluster.


  1. If you are using the Element UI, perform the following steps:
    1. From the Element UI, select Cluster > Drives .
    2. Click Available to view the list of available drives.
    3. Click the Actions icon for the drive you want to add and click Add.
  2. If you are using the Element Plug-in for vCenter, perform the following steps:
    1. In the Element plug-in for vCenter server, click NetApp Element Management > Cluster > Drives .
    2. From the Available drop-down list, select the drive, and click Add.
    3. Confirm the action.
