What's new in this release

Unified Manager 7.3 includes several new features and enhancements.

Support for Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) authentication
After you have configured your Unified Manager system for remote authentication, you can enable SAML authentication so that remote users are authenticated by a secure identity provider (IdP) before they can access the Unified Manager web UI. The IdP can implement a variety of multi-factor authentication (MFA) methods such as card-reader, fingerprint reader, retina scanner, and so on.
Enhanced support for ONTAP Quality of Service (QoS) functionality
When QoS policies are applied to volumes and LUNs in ONTAP, the following new Unified Manager functionality is available.
  • QoS minimum and maximum throughput values are now displayed in the LUN Zoom View counter charts when a QoS policy has been assigned to a LUN in ONTAP.
  • Support for adaptive QoS policies when using ONTAP 9.3.

Adaptive QoS policy "expected" and "peak" values are displayed in the IOPS/TB Zoom View counter chart when an adaptive QoS policy has been assigned to a volume. These policies automatically adjust the QoS policy value based on the volume size, per workload, thereby maintaining the ratio of IOPS to terabytes as the size of the volume changes.

  • Two new system-defined performance threshold policies for QoS.

One new policy has been created for QoS thresholds, and one new policy has been created for adaptive QoS thresholds. These policies are assigned to any volume or LUN that has a configured ONTAP QoS maximum throughput policy (IOPS, IOPS/TB, or MBps). They trigger warning events when a workload has exceeded the maximum throughput threshold defined in the assigned QoS policy group.

Note: Unified Manager generates events for standard QoS policies only when a single workload is assigned to the QoS policy. Events are not generated when multiple workloads share a single QoS policy. This includes FlexGroup volumes since they are made up of many FlexVol volumes.
  • The QoS event detail pages have been enhanced to display performance charts and targeted remediations to help resolve performance issues.
Ability to export additional capacity reports and performance reports to CSV format
An Export button has been available on many of the Health pages in the interface for many releases. This release adds the ability to export reports in CSV format from additional pages in the UI:
Performance Reports

You can generate reports from the following performance pages:

  • The Performance object inventory pages.
  • The Performance/Cluster Top Performers page.

The Top Performers page enables you to generate a report of the top (or bottom) performers for a single cluster, or for all clusters in your datacenter.

Capacity History Reports

You can generate the following reports from the Health/Aggregate details page and Health/Volume details page:

  • Aggregate Capacity Used (%)
  • Aggregate Capacity Used vs Total Capacity
  • Aggregate Capacity Used (%) vs Committed (%)
  • Volume Capacity Used
  • Volume Capacity Used vs Total
  • Volume Capacity Used (%)
  • Snapshot Capacity Used (%)
Some performance charts have been consolidated for easier selection and viewing
The counter charts in Performance Explorer pages have been consolidated so that the Advanced charts are now an integrated selection on the regular charts. For example, instead of having both "IOPS" and "IOPS (Advanced)" charts to select from, there is a single IOPS selection. Within the displayed chart you can view the "Total" counter value or a "Breakdown" view of the IOPS for the selected storage object.
Ability to generate reports directly from the Unified Manager database
Users with the Report Schema role will now have read-only access to reporting and other database views directly from the Unified Manager database. The databases that can be viewed include:
  • netapp_model_view
  • netapp_performance
  • ocum
  • ocum_report
  • ocum_report_birt
  • opm
  • scalemonitor
New "Space Savings" column available in the Health/Aggregates inventory page
The new "Space Savings" field displays the storage efficiency ratio based on the total logical space that is being used to store the data and the total physical space that would be required to store the data without using ONTAP storage efficiency technologies. This field is applicable only to SSD aggregates, and only when the monitored storage system is running ONTAP version 9.0 or greater.
One week timeframe to view performance history from Top Performers page
The Performance/Cluster Top Performers page provides a 1 week timeframe to view performance history for a longer period of time than the previous options of 72 hours, 24 hours, and 1 hour.
ONTAP software support
Unified Manager 7.3 supports ONTAP 9.3, 9.2, 9.1, 9.0, 8.3.x, and 8.2.x releases. Data ONTAP 8.1.x and earlier releases are not supported.
