You might need to permanently remove a grid node from the StorageGRID Webscale system. This is achieved through decommissioning.
Decommissioning is supported for the following grid node types:
- Storage Nodes
- API Gateway Nodes
- Non-primary Admin Nodes
You cannot decommission all grid nodes at a site and you cannot decommission a site.
Use the decommissioning procedure when:
- You have added a larger Storage Node to the system and want to remove one or more smaller Storage Nodes, while at the same time preserving objects.
- Less total storage is required.
- An API Gateway Node is no longer required.
- A non-primary Admin Node is no longer required.
When decommissioning grid nodes, restrictions are enforced automatically by the
StorageGRID Webscale system.
Attention: The grid node must be available and online to perform decommissioning. Do not remove grid node's virtual machine or other resources until instructed to do so in this procedure.
