Decommissioning of a grid node impacts data security, ILM policy, other grid tasks, and system operations.
More information
Impact of decommissioning on data security
To ensure data security, you must wipe the decommissioned grid node’s drives after the decommission procedure is complete. Decommissioning a grid node does not securely remove data from the decommissioned grid node.
Impact of decommissioning on ILM policy
You must not make any changes to the ILM policy while the Storage Node decommissioning procedure is underway unless the current ILM policy cannot be achieved after decommissioning.
Impact of decommissioning on other maintenance procedures
The decommissioning procedure requires exclusive access to some system resources, so you must confirm that no other maintenance procedures are running. Decommission procedures that involve Storage Nodes can be paused to allow other maintenance procedures to run if needed, and resumed once they are complete.
Impact of decommissioning on system operations
Storage Node decommissioning involves the transfer of large volumes of object data over the network. Although these transfers should not affect normal system operations, they can have an impact on the total amount of network bandwidth consumed by the StorageGRID Webscale system.
