Deploying the virtual machine

You must deploy the NAS Bridge virtual machine. The virtual machine image is contained in a single file based on the OVF standard.

Before you begin

You must already be familiar with VMware vSphere and ESXi, and have experience deploying virtual machines in this environment.

In addition, you must have prepared to deploy the NAS Bridge virtual machine as follows:

About this task

The VMware tools package is included with the NAS Bridge virtual machine. If you are deploying in an environment with DHCP enabled, and static IP networking properties are not set, an IP address is assigned to the virtual machine when it is started. Otherwise, you can assign a static IP address to the virtual machine during deployment.

  1. Access the VMware vSphere Web Client and sign in.
  2. Navigate to the appropriate location in the vCenter hierarchy and right-click to select Deploy OVF Template.
Normally you can navigate to Hosts and Clusters and deploy the template as a specific user or within a specific resource pool.
  3. Type the required information and select the options as appropriate for your environment.
Deploying the virtual machine is a multistep process that includes selecting the source .ova file and the deployment destination. You can also enter a gateway, IP address, and netmask if you want to assign a static IP address to the virtual machine.
  4. Start the virtual machine if it is not active.
  5. If you are using DHCP, navigate to the summary tab for the virtual machine on the vCenter Client page and record the IP address.
You need the IP address to connect to the NAS Bridge node using a web browser. You can choose to assign a static IP address later.
