Manage licenses in NetApp Console local deployment
Manage the NetApp Backup and Recovery license in NetApp Console local deployment. This is a floating license that you can use across all systems associated with your NetApp Console organization. If the license provides sufficient backup capacity, you do not need to purchase another one. You can add, update, and remove the license, and view its consumed capacity, license capacity, and license expiry.

NetApp Console local deployment does not require a license. NetApp Backup and Recovery is currently the only service that supports direct licensing in NetApp Console local deployment. This license is also called a bring-your-own-license (BYOL) license. For more information, see the NetApp Backup and Recovery licensing documentation. |
You must have the Super admin or Organization admin role to manage licenses in Console local deployment.
Add a license
Add a license to your Console organization by uploading a license file.
You need your cloud service serial number and NetApp Console organization ID to generate the license file.
-
Select Administration > Licenses.
-
Select the Direct licenses tab.
-
Select Add license.
-
Go to the System > Software Licenses tab at the NetApp Support Site and generate the license file.
-
Return to the Add license dialog, select Upload, and select the license file.
-
Select Add license to install the license.
The license appears in the Direct licenses table, and the License and Capacity Distribution summary updates.
View license status
Review installed licenses and their status from the Direct licenses tab. The table shows the service, serial number, type, consumed capacity, license capacity, and license expiry. The License and Capacity Distribution summary shows the number of installed licenses and the capacity allocated to NetApp Backup and Recovery.
From the actions menu
in each row, you can update or remove a license.
-
Select Administration > Licenses.
-
Select the Direct licenses tab.
-
Review the table and the License and Capacity Distribution summary.
Update a license
Replace an existing license in your Console organization, for example, when a license is renewed or its capacity or expiry date changes.
-
Select Administration > Licenses.
-
Select the Direct licenses tab.
-
Select the actions menu
for the license you are updating, and select Update license. -

Remove a license
Remove a license from your Console organization. Removing a license is permanent. A removed license no longer contributes capacity or duration to NetApp Backup and Recovery. If the license expires, backups from existing policies and restores continue, but you cannot create new backup policies or extend protection to additional workloads and datastores.
-
Select Administration > Licenses.
-
Select the Direct licenses tab.
-
Select the actions menu
for the license you want to remove, and select Remove license. -
In the Remove license confirmation dialog, verify the serial number in the prompt.
-
Select Remove to permanently remove the license.
The license is removed from the Direct licenses table, and the License and Capacity Distribution summary updates.
