Create protection groups to manage the backup operations for a set of KVM resources. A protection group is a logical grouping of resources such as VMs and storage pools that you want to protect together. You need to create a protection group to back up KVM virtual machines or storage pools.
You can perform the following tasks related to protection groups:

Create a protection group.

Create a protection group
Group VMs and storage pools that you want to protect together into a protection group.
Required Console role
Backup and Recovery super admin or Backup and Recovery backup admin role. Learn about NetApp Console access roles for all services.

From the NetApp Backup and Recovery menu, select Inventory.

Select a workload to view the protection details.

Select the Actions icon
> View details. -
Select the Protection groups tab.

Select Create protection group.

Provide a name for the protection group.

Select a host to list the available VMs on that host. To include VMs from all discovered hosts, select All in the hosts list.

Select individual VMs that you want to include in the protection group, or select All to include all VMs in the list.
VMs that you select appear in the Added virtual machines area. You can remove individual VMs from the list or empty the list entirely. You can add VMs from multiple KVM hosts to the list.

Select Next.

Select the protection policy that you want to apply to the protection group, or create a new policy by selecting Create new policy.

Select Next.

Review the configuration.

Select Create to create the protection group.
Edit a protection group
Edit a protection group if you need to change details of the protection group without deleting and recreating it.

From the NetApp Backup and Recovery menu, select Inventory.

Select a workload to view the protection details.

Select the Actions icon
> View details. -
Select the Protection groups tab.

Select the protection group that you want to edit.

Select the Actions icon
> Edit. -
Make any needed changes to the general details and VMs in the protection group.

Select Next.

If needed, change the policy associated with the protection group.

Select Next.

Review the configuration and select Submit.
Delete a protection group
Deleting a protection group removes it and all associated backup schedules. You might want to delete a protection group if it is no longer needed.

From the NetApp Backup and Recovery menu, select Inventory.

Select a workload to view the protection details.

Select the Actions icon
> View details. -
Select the Protection groups tab.

Select the protection group that you want to delete.

Select the Actions icon
> Delete. -
Review the confirmation message about deleting the associated backups and confirm the deletion.
