Back up VMware workloads with NetApp Backup and Recovery
Back up VMware VMs and datastores from on-premises ONTAP systems to Amazon Web Services, Azure NetApp Files, or StorageGRID to help protect your data. Backups are generated automatically and stored in an object store in your public or private cloud account.

Back up workloads now with an on-demand backup
Create an on-demand backup immediately. You might want to run an on-demand backup if you're about to make changes to your system and want to ensure that you have a backup before you start.
Required NetApp Console role
Storage viewer, Backup and Recovery super admin, Backup and Recovery backup admin, Backup and Recovery restore admin, Backup and Recovery clone admin, or Backup and Recovery viewer role. If you are protecting data stored on a Cloud Volumes ONTAP cluster, the Cloud Volumes ONTAP Admin role is also required. Learn about NetApp Console access roles for all services.

From the NetApp Backup and Recovery menu, select Inventory.

Select the VMware workload.

Select the Actions icon
> View details. -
Select the Protection Groups, Datastores, Virtual machines, or Tags menu heading.

Select the protection group, datastores, virtual machines, or tagged resources that you want to back up.

Select the Actions icon
> Back up now.The policy that is applied to the backup is the same policy that is assigned to the protection group, datastore, virtual machine, or tagged resources. -
Select the schedule tier.

Select Back up now.
Delete backups
You can delete local backups that are no longer needed to free up storage space or meet data retention requirements.

Log in to NetApp Backup and Recovery, and from the home screen, select the VMware workload tile.
The VMware Inventory page appears.

Select the Virtual machines heading.

In the list of virtual machines, choose a virtual machine and select the Actions icon
> View protection details. -
Select a time frame to display relevant snapshots.

Delete one or more snapshots:
Delete a single snapshot-
Choose a snapshot from the list that you want to delete, and select the Actions icon
> Delete local snapshot.
Delete multiple snapshots-
Select the check box to the left of each snapshot that you want to delete.

Select Delete selected.
