Workload Factory for NetApp Console

Quick start for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP in NetApp Workload Factory

Contributors netapp-rlithman

Get started with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP by adding credentials and permissions, creating a link if needed, and creating or discovering a storage system.

Follow these steps to get started.

One Add credentials and permissions

Add credentials to an account manually that includes selecting workload capabilities, such as Databases and EDA, and creating the IAM policies for the required permissions.

Choose the permission policies to meet your needs.

Two Optional: Create a Console agent or a link

To perform some management tasks from the NetApp Console, you either need a Console agent or a NetApp Workload Factory link. A Console agent is a virtual machine that you deploy in your VPC to manage your FSx for ONTAP file systems. A link leverages AWS Lambda to create a trust relationship and connectivity to your FSx for ONTAP file systems.

Three Create a file system

Create your FSx for ONTAP file system directly from the NetApp Console or discover a file system that you've already created in your AWS environment. Learn how to create a file system or discover an existing one.

You can also start with the storage savings calculator to compare the costs of your Amazon Elastic Block Store, Elastic File System, and FSx for Windows File Server storage environments to that of FSx for ONTAP. Explore savings with the storage savings calculator.

What's next

With a file system in your Storage inventory, you can create volumes, manage your FSx for ONTAP file system, and set up data protection for your resources.
