Prepare for the controller replacement - EF50 and EF80
Prepare to replace the impaired controller in your EF50 or EF80 storage system by unpacking the replacement controller, making note of its MAC address, confirming its part number is correct, and backing up the storage system's configuration database.
-
Unpack the replacement controller and set it on a flat static-free surface.
Save the packing materials to use when returning the impaired controller.
-
Make note of the MAC address on the side of the replacement controller.
You use the MAC address later in the controller replacement procedure.
-
Confirm that the part number on the replacement controller is the same as the controller's replacement part number in SANtricity System Manager:
Possible loss of data access: If the two part numbers are not the same, do not attempt this procedure. The presence of mismatched controllers causes the replacement controller to lock down when you bring it online. -
Make note of the part number on the side of the replacement controller.
-
Locate the replacement part number for the impaired controller displayed in the details area of the Recovery Guru.
If you need to find this number manually, follow these steps:
-
Select Hardware > Controllers and components.
-
Select the controller graphic for the impaired controller (Controller A or Controller B) to view the context menu.
-
Select View settings.
-
On the Base tab, make a note of the Replacement Part Number for the controller.
-
-
Compare the two part numbers to confirm they are the same.
-
The next step depends on whether the part numbers are the same or not:
If… Then… The two part numbers are the same
Continue to the next step.
The two part numbers are different
You cannot continue with this procedure.

Back up the storage system's configuration database using SANtricity System Manager.
If a problem occurs when you remove a controller, you can use the saved file to restore your configuration. The system saves the current state of the RAID configuration database, which includes all data for volume groups and disk pools on the controller.
-
Select Support › Support Center › Diagnostics.
-
Select Collect Configuration Data.
-
Select Collect.
The file is saved in the Downloads folder for your browser with the name, configurationData-<arrayName>-<dateTime>.7z.
-
After preparing for the controller replacement, offline the impaired controller.
