After you set up your NKS account, it’s time to start creating and managing Kubernetes clusters.

Create a Kubernetes Cluster

Before you create a Kubernetes cluster with NKS, you will need to add your provider credentials.

To create a Kubernetes cluster in NKS, click the +CREATE CLUSTER button. Customize any defaults you want, including changing the region, size and number of nodes, adding packaged Helm charts, etc. Then NKS will create your cluster on the provider of your choice.

Manage an NKS Kubernetes Cluster

After your cluster is built, you can manage it from the Control Plane. Click the cluster to see details about it, including the number and size of nodes, deployments, services, event log, and more.

From the cluster detail page, click Kubernetes Dashboard to view the standard Kubernetes dashboard. This view gives you the familiar Kubernetes dashboard view of your cluster’s usage, features, workloads, configurations, and other settings.

Access an NKS Kubernetes Cluster

You can perform many basic Kubernetes management functions through the NKS Control Plane. For example, you can add and delete nodes, create Istio routes, and add solutions to your cluster from the cluster detail page.

Kubeconfig File and Kubectl

To work directly with the cluster, you will want to install and use Kubectl. Kubectl is the command-line interface for interacting with a Kubernetes cluster, and is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

To use Kubectl, install it on your computer, then download the cluster’s kubeconfig file from the Cluster Details page. For more information on using Kubectl to work with an NKS cluster, see our article on how to install and use Kubectl.


Whenever possible, you should use Kubectl to interact with an NKS Kubernetes cluster. However, sometimes you may encounter a situation where you need to SSH directly to a node in a cluster.
