The 9.8 release of the ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere includes several new features and enhancements.

Rename virtual appliance for VSC, VASA Provider, and SRA to ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere

Starting with the 9.8 release, the virtual appliance for VSC, VASA Provider, and SRA is renamed to ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere.

Support for FlexGroup datastores

Starting with the 9.8 release of ONTAP tools, you can now provision FlexGroup datastores and set QoS policies for FlexGroup backed datastores. You can also monitor virtual machines performance provisioned on FlexGroup datastores.

Enhanced SAN support for traditional datastores

ONTAP tools supports SAN datastores (All SAN Array) up to the size of 64TB.

Support for enhanced SRA performance and protection group

Starting with the 9.8 release, ONTAP tools supports enhanced SRA performance, increased datastore size, and protection groups (500 protection groups).

Support for REST APIs for vVols file metrics

ONTAP tools 9.8 release supports REST APIs for vVols file metrics.

SRA support for SnapMirror Synchronous

From the 9.8 release of ONTAP tools, SRA supports synchronous SnapMirror operations.

Enhanced vVols rebalance command (SAN only)

Starting with the 9.8 release of ONTAP tools, rebalancing support for vVols datastore is provided to redistribute vVols across existing FlexVol volumes.

Support for ONTAP 9.8

The 9.8 release of ONTAP tools supports ONTAP 9.8 and ONTAP Select.

Support for storage capability enhancements

The 9.8 release of ONTAP tools provides enhanced default storage capability profiles and also supports user-defined storage capability profiles across upgrades.

Support for Tanzu platform

The 9.8 release of ONTAP tools supports deployment on VMware's Tanzu platform that enables you to run containerized applications.
