General NetApp Backup and Recovery enhancements

In this release, KVM, Hyper-V, and VMware workloads introduce the following enhancement:

Credential selection during VM host discovery: When you register a KVM, Hyper-V, or VMware host, you can now use credentials that you have already added to Backup and Recovery.

Hyper-V workloads enhancements

In this release, Hyper-V workloads introduces the following enhancement:

Spanning disk protection for VMs: For CIFS configurations, Backup and Recovery now supports protecting every disk attached to each VM in a protection group. This includes files distributed across multiple ONTAP volumes or ONTAP storage systems (spanning disks) and files limited to a single location.

ONTAP Volumes workloads enhancement

In this release, ONTAP Volumes workloads introduces the following preview enhancement:

Daily backup data transfer report: NetApp Backup and Recovery for Volumes now includes a daily backup data transfer report under the Reports tab, giving you visibility into daily backup and replication data transfer activity across your environment. You can generate the report for the full account or for selected storage systems, filter by date range and protection type, and download the results as a CSV.

Hyper-V workloads enhancements

In this release, Hyper-V workloads introduces the following enhancement:

Restore object storage backup to alternate location: You can now restore Hyper-V VMs, files, and folders from object storage to an alternate storage location.

Kubernetes workloads enhancements

In this release, Kubernetes workloads introduces the following enhancements:

  • Trident Protect 26.08: This release includes Trident Protect 26.08.

  • Backup retries: You can now enable backup retries and configure the number of retry attempts and intervals between retries as advanced settings in Kubernetes protection policies.

  • Partial backup success: You can now configure advanced settings in Kubernetes protection policies to continue backing up when individual resources fail, allowing backup jobs to complete as partially successful. This enables you to restore backed-up resources even if some resources fail during the backup operation.

  • Crash-consistent and VM-consistent backups: Backup and Recovery for NetApp Console service now supports configuring protection policies that create crash-consistent or VM-consistent backups or snapshots. You can also customize how VM freezes are performed during the protection operation.

  • Reconnect Kubernetes cluster upon Console agent IP change: Backup and Recovery for NetApp Console service now enables you to reconnect a cluster to its Console agent if the IP address of the agent changes.

  • Migrate cluster to new Console agent: Backup and Recovery for NetApp Console service now enables you to migrate a cluster to a new Console agent if the original agent fails or is deleted, ensuring uninterrupted app protection.

Oracle Database workloads enhancement

In this release, Oracle Database workloads introduces the following enhancements:

  • Pluggable Database (PDB) restore: You can now restore individual pluggable databases (PDBs) and PDB tablespaces, including point-in-time recovery.

  • Pluggable Database (PDB) clone: You can now clone a single PDB into an existing target container database (CDB), and optionally exclude PDBs when you clone a complete container database.

General NetApp Backup and Recovery enhancements

  • Support for NetApp Console local deployment: This release of NetApp Backup and Recovery supports NetApp Console local deployment in preview status.

  • 90 days of job retention: Backup and Recovery now retains job information in the Job Monitor for 90 days.

VMware workloads enhancements

In this release, VMware workloads introduces the following enhancements:

  • Restore to alternate location support for SAN VMs: You can now restore SAN-based VM backups to an alternate location.

  • Multiple backup delete support: You can now delete multiple backups at a time.

Kubernetes workloads enhancements

In this release, Kubernetes workloads introduces the following enhancements:

  • Preview support for air-gapped resources: If running NetApp Backup and Recovery in NetApp Console local deployment, you can discover, protect, and restore air-gapped Kubernetes resources. This feature is in preview for this release.

ONTAP Volumes workloads enhancements

In this release, ONTAP Volumes workloads introduces the following enhancements:

  • Prioritize restore jobs over backups: You can now prioritize restore jobs over backup jobs when you restore VMs or files.

  • Discover ONTAP systems and volumes without Backup and Recovery activation: You can now discover systems and volumes without activating Backup and Recovery.

Backup and Recovery

Enhanced multi-bucket support for all workloads

NetApp Backup and Recovery now supports protecting the workloads within a system with up to 100 buckets across different cloud providers. ONTAP 9.19.1 or later is required to support more than 6 buckets per system.
