NetApp Keystone is available through Keystone Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) and Keystone XaaS subscription offerings. Keystone STaaS supports partner-operated and customer-operated operational models, while Keystone XaaS is delivered exclusively by NetApp partners. Your offering and operational model determine who manages your storage environment, handles day-to-day operations, and provides support.
Keystone STaaS operational models
Keystone STaaS operational models define the responsibilities of NetApp, partners, and customers throughout the service lifecycle. The following sections describe the partner-operated and customer-operated models.
Partner-operated model
A partner can deliver Keystone STaaS as a service provider or a reseller. Responsibilities depend on your agreement with the partner. Contact your service provider or partner to understand which tasks they handle for you.
Service provider: A service provider operates the services for their end customers. As the contracted party with NetApp, the service provider manages a multi-tenant environment. Each tenant is a customer of the service provider and has a separate subscription that the service provider bills directly. The service provider administrator is responsible for performing all administrative tasks for the tenants.
Reseller: As a reseller, a partner acts as a bridge between NetApp and the customer. The partner sells Keystone services to the end customer and manages the invoicing. While the partner takes care of billing, NetApp provides direct support to the customer. Keystone support interacts with the customer and handles all administrative tasks for the tenants.
Customer-operated model
In a customer-operated model, you subscribe to Keystone STaaS based on your storage requirements and selected performance service levels. NetApp defines the architecture and products, and deploys the storage at your premises.
Your storage and IT teams manage the infrastructure. An administrator from your organization performs administrative tasks for the users in your environment. Depending on your contract, you can submit service requests to NetApp or your service provider.

Keystone XaaS partner delivery and support
Keystone XaaS is a separate subscription offering under NetApp Keystone, delivered exclusively by NetApp partners. Partners deliver the service to their end customers and manage support and day-to-day operations.
