NetApp Trident support for ONTAP ASA r2 storage systems
NetApp Trident 25.02 and later supports NetApp ASA r2 systems as storage backends. Refer to ASA r2 systems for more information.
ASA r2 systems require the ontap-san driver. Trident does not support the ontap-san-economy driver for ASA r2 systems.
When you specify ontap-san as the storageDriverName in the backend configuration, Trident automatically detects the ASA r2 storage system.
Trident provides limited data protection for ASA r2 systems with Trident protect.
Supported SAN protocols depend on your Trident version:
-
Trident 25.02 and later supports iSCSI.
-
Trident 25.06 and later supports NVMe/TCP in addition to iSCSI.
You must assign at least one aggregate to the storage virtual machine (SVM) for ONTAP backend storage. Refer to Assigning aggregates to SVMs in ASA r2 systems for instructions.
