Learn about the new capabilities available in ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 10.1.
Update | Description |
---|---|
This release of ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere supports vVols datastore provisioning through the VASA Provider and NFS v3 and VMFS datastores. Datastore operations like create, resize, mount, unmount, and delete are supported. You can provision VMFS datastores using iSCSI protocol. As a VMware admin, you can seamlessly deploy, upgrade and transition iSCSI VMFS datastores from ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 9.xx version to 10.1 version. Migration is supported from ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 9.10D2, 9.11D4, 9.12, and 9.13 releases to 10.1 release. |

SRA implements VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) specification-based disaster recovery (DR). For NFS datastores, ONTAP volumes are mounted on ESXi host using NFS v3 protocols. For VMFS datastores, ONTAP LUNS are mounted on ESXi host using iSCSI protocol. ONTAP SnapMirror relationships replicate volumes and LUNs in the destination site. SRA implements testFailover, failover, and reprotect commands invoked from VMware SRM. As part of implementation, SRA ensures that all volumes and LUNs are mountable on destination in recovery incident and the secondary site volumes and LUNs are read to avoid data discrepancy. |

ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 10.1 provides a graphical user interface for workflows to bring parity with ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 9.xx releases. The remote plug-in supports: |
You can quickly onboard ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere 10.1 and experience its features using the easy deployment option. SnapShot-based recovery is supported in easy deployment. |
ONTAP tools Manager provides better control to ONTAP tools administrator over the managed vCenter instances and onboarded storage backends. ONTAP tools Manager helps in:
Single instance of ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere can manage multiple vCenter instances. When you deploy ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere, self-signed certificate is assigned to all vCenter instances by default. When you’re managing multiple vCenter instances and you want to enable vVols capability on multiple vCenter instances, you must change the self-signed certificate to custom CA certificate using the ONTAP tools Manager interface. You can use the same interface to renew or refresh all certificates. |
If you lose your ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere setup, you can recover your ONTAP tools setup using the ONTAP data management software without any data loss. Zero RPO recovery is not supported for easy deployment options. |
iSCSI protocol support for deployment |
Trident supports NFS and iSCSI protocols to provision persistent volumes. When deploying the ONTAP tools for VMware vSphere, you can use the iSCSI protocol to store VASA provider services data in persistent volumes. |
IPv6 address support for storage and vCenter onboarding |
You can onboard storage backends with IPv4 addresses, IPv6 addresses, or fully qualified domain names (FQDNs). Storage services and Storage Proxy services use onboarded credentials with the same IPv4 or IPv6 addresses to communicate with the ONTAP REST API. Data pathing is supported with IPv4 addresses, IPv6 addresses, or FQDN using export policy rules. |
